"Honda Develops a Robot Controlled By Human Thought" NYT April 1 2009

Although believed to be an April Fools' joke, it seems that Honda has developed a machine that can be controlled by human thought. Brain-Machine Interface allows brain patterns to be sent to robot Asimo, who then is able to enact movements that correspond to the human user's brain image. Well, check out the video and decide for yourself.

  1. Bukatman says that modern special effects in film are updated versions of the dioramas, kaleidoscopes, etc. of yesteryear. These technologies are similar in that they emphasize the act of viewing. They call attention to the spectacle, a popular trait of the very first films, coined the “Cinema of Attractions”. The presence of these technologies at the end of the nineteenth century allowed viewers to re-imagine familiar landscapes in light of the “urban disorientation” of the period. This followed with the progress of travel technology as the advent railways shifted the travelers view from objects in close proximity to a wider “panoramic perspective”.
As other media (tied to films) such as games, comics, posters, toys, etc. begin to permeate the cultural landscape they become an extension of the film. Bukatman views these extensions of the cinematic experience as a way for viewers to inhabit the world’s presented in these films as opposed simply viewing them.
